I love the fabric mesh that looks really different and is very good for airflow. This brings us to this point, 10 years and 50 cases later, my case of the year for 2019, which is also my favorite case, is the Phanteks P600S. Despite it being so awesome, but unfortunately you can’t really find the case anywhere. Unfortunately, the availability was so poor in the last week of December when it launched that it basically disqualified it from being the case of the year. For example, the flexible front fan bracket, rotatable cable bar inside to accommodate larger motherboards, built-in lighting, a drive cage on the rails with optional hot-swap brackets, and good cooling when we tested with our Core i9. The Lancool II by Lian Li was so close to being my case of the year for 2019 because of all the fantastic features and price point. The NZXT H500i came out too, replacing the S340 with a new modern look and tempered glass. The Phanteks Evolv X launched with a few internal and exterior changes to slightly improve airflow and add a mini-ITX spot above the main ATX section. It wasn’t really easy to work in, but I still appreciate them taking a risk. The Deepcool Quadstellar has one of the coolest frame designs ever. Corsair took our feedback on fixing the tempered glass mount on the Carbide 275R making it an easy recommendation for its price class. Thermaltake launched something cool too, the View 37 enclosure with a curved acrylic panel for beautiful showcase of your system. Regardless of the angle, it was beautiful, fresh, and the only complaint was not accommodating large CPU tower heat sinks and tall GPU blocks. I love the new take on panel mounting and smart dual chamber design. That model was actually the case of year for 2018. Lian Li launched the Alpha series, which was quite boring and very standard, but I am so thankful they would later redeem themselves by launching the Lian Li O11 Dynamic. This was a micro-ATX case with long GPU support, ATX power supply compatibility, ventilation all over the place, including a massive 180mm Air Penetrator fan up top. An even more impressive small chassis from 2012 was the Sugo SG09 by SilverStone. Sadly, mini-ITX wasn’t as popular back then as it is now. The interior supported ATX power supplies and long graphics cards. Probably the last popular and somewhat decent BitFenix enclosure is the Prodigy, with that unique small box design and flexible handles. The NZXT Phantom 820 also made a strong impression with properly utilized interior space with modular sections, removable 5.25″ drive cages, elegant built-in lighting, lots of radiator options, and an epic gun metal paint job. Nevertheless, the modding community still loved it. It was really all about the exterior shell and internal drive capacity, as the case wasn’t very water cooling friendly despite its large size. In 2012 we got an updated Cooler Master Cosmos II with those epic handles, the mechanical front panel, and heavy AF side doors.

Hi Diane - I have similar issues to Greg. If you use public hotspots, you should enable two-factor. It doesn't request re-authorization often, which makes using an app password fairly painless. In my experience with Gmail, their implementation of two-factor authorization is not annoying at all and retains the authorization. Gmail allows you to revoke individual app passwords, which you can do by clicking the trash can icon to the right of the device name. If you enable two-factor authentication, you'll create new app passwords at App passwords. To check or change your settings, sign in to Gmail then open your Google account settings. (The app password is a one-time use password that can be voided if you suspect it is compromised, without affecting your “real” password.) Older versions of Outlook can't connect to Gmail servers unless you also enable two-factor authorization then use an app password in Outlook. If you do not have two-step verification enabled, you will need to enable it to create an app password. His job as a software engineer affords him a life of fun and affluence, but all he wants is something that will feed his soul. Four burners are on high heating saute pans and woks, each with a small portion of mushrooms and a loving portion of salt. The white linoleum counters tint green from heaping cups of chopped parsley and cilantro. The faint smell of charred eggplant lingers as they roast at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for smoky baba ganoush. Thirty garlic cloves are peeled and minced for whenever Stephen will need them. Soon enough, the kitchen is a symphony of chaos and excitement. He hands his sous chefs – his roommate and me – a ticket each and takes one for himself. Tickets, as they’re called in the tech industry. Next he consults a Notion Project Management Doc on his laptop for the following afternoon’s menu, writing tasks on pieces of tape for everyone to execute. The 23-year-old pulls his long, jet-black hair into a messy bun and slips on a pair of Latex gloves. Stephen and his two sous chefs begin the mise en place, a French term he favors for having all his ingredients prepared before cooking. He needs to get home to prep for his biggest event yet, an authentic Mediterranean picnic for more than 40 people.īack at his two-bedroom, one-bath rental off of Martin Luther King Junior Way, the team assembles in a narrow kitchen. Stephen reminds himself to pick up the pace. And he can’t forget to snag some Valencia peanut butter, his roommate’s favorite. He has an unopened three-pound package of chickpeas at home, but he grabs another for good measure. He tosses all kinds of mushrooms into the cart: maitake, oyster, portobello, shiitake and cremini. He reaches for a four dollar GT’s Synergy kombucha, like always, before arriving at his favorite destination: bulk and fresh produce. The privately held company charges a monthly fee to businesses that want to simplify and accelerate the process of finding and screening candidates for jobs. ZipRecruiter, which calls itself the fastest-growing online employment marketplace in the United States, was, typically, attached to the price tag. And one company’s experience hints at the potential that personalized pricing could have for profits. Many of these data points could be used to suss out how much people will pay for given goods and services.Įconomists are intrigued by this idea. Imagine what it could charge if it also factored in location, income, credit score, number of dependents, or other available information. The airline might charge a little more.Īnd an airline doesn’t have to know much about a person to do that. If she comes back on a Friday rather than staying the weekend, for example, she’s probably flying on business-and an expense account. Airlines may use a rewards program or the days and times a person flies to determine whether she is traveling for business. From there, it’s not a big leap to move toward more customization. Airlines, for example, adjust prices based on variables, and two people sitting side by side on a cross-country flight may have paid very different prices depending in part on when they purchased their tickets. This was an advantage of haggling, as individualized prices theoretically benefited both businesses and customers.Įven in the age of the price tag, businesses have sought to balance profits with supply and demand. If a seller could charge all customers the highest amount they are willing to pay, it would maximize profits while providing the customers with the products they want or need. The seller will lose profits from customers who would have purchased the product or service in question for slightly less-and will sacrifice profits from those customers who would have paid more. The optimal option is often somewhere in the middle: a price high enough to generate profits but low enough to be enticing to a large segment of the customer base. A higher price may draw fewer customers, but each sale becomes more profitable. A low price with thin margins might attract more customers, but each sale will produce little profit. And while this raises concern among privacy and consumer advocates, he says people may come around to his view, that “information-based pricing or advertising is the right way to go.” The difficulty of setting pricesĪ seemingly simple price tag hides the complicated process of setting prices. “Personalization of these things is already starting to happen,” he says. Pricing is a next step, says Chicago Booth’s Sanjog Misra. Thanks to the internet and mobile devices, companies are already collecting large amounts of data and using those to personalize advertisements they offer customers. Research suggests personalized pricing could raise businesses’ profits considerably, and companies are exploring the idea-but cautiously, wary of upsetting customers. With online shopping and data collection, companies are moving closer to being able to once again tailor prices to individual customers. Other stores soon followed suit, and set prices became the norm for most goods and services.īut almost 150 years later, the system could soon revert back to the method that predated Wanamaker’s innovation, in a sense. Instead, he affixed a note to every item in the store with the amount a customer was expected to pay. With more than 100 product counters to staff, Wanamaker didn’t have time to teach employees the fine art of haggling. Meanwhile, he had to figure out, was the customer in a hurry and willing to pay more, or had he come prepared to negotiate for a steeper discount? When a customer picked up a shirt and admired it, a clerk had to know how much the product cost the store, the overhead associated with storing it, competitors’ prices, and more. Until that point, pricing had involved a dance between clerk and customer. But it went a step further and changed not only where people purchased items but how they paid. Along with Macy’s in New York and other department stores popping up in major cities, Wanamaker’s Grand Depot revolutionized how people shopped, primarily by placing many different items under one roof. In the 1870s, Wanamaker purchased a former Philadelphia railroad depot and expanded his men’s clothing business to include women’s clothing and dry goods. The introduction of the price tag was a big step forward for American retailing, and you can thank John Wanamaker. |
